Nigel McNair Scott

Nigel was appointed to the Board of Reaction Engines Ltd. in 2010 as Non-Executive Chairman.

Nigel gained his early experience in Charter Consolidated and Anglo American Corporation of South Africa, and has served as Non-Executive Director of Johnson Matthey and Govett Strategic Investment Trust, and was Chairman of Avocet Mining for 17 years. He was Finance Director of Helical Bar from 1987 to 2012 and is now Chairman of Helical Bar. MA Oxon, FCA, FCT.

Tim Hayter

Chief Executive Officer
Tim Hayter

Prior to joining Reaction Engines in May 2012 as Chief Executive Officer, Tim was a Divisional CEO within Morgan Crucible plc. Tim has extensive engineering and manufacturing global experience gained in Rolls Royce, Dynacast International, Chemring Group, Hampson Industries and has lived and worked in Asia, the US and Europe. He has an engineering degree from the University of Manchester, an MBA from London Business School and is a Chartered Engineer.

Alan Bond

Founder and Chief Engineer
Alan Bond

Alan is a founding Director of Reaction Engines Ltd. and inventor of the SABRE engine.

Alan began his career at Rolls-Royce and British Aircraft Corporation where he gained wide experience in gas turbines and rockets. Subsequently Alan worked at the Atomic Energy Authority on the JET and RFX nuclear research projects, and as a consultant engineer to BAe Systems during the HOTOL space launcher project having invented its RB545 air-breathing rocket engines.

Richard Varvill

Technical Director and Chief Designer
Richard Varvill

Richard is a founding Director of Reaction Engines Ltd.

Richard began his career with Rolls Royce Military Engine Division working on advanced gas turbine concepts (EJ200, Hybrid Fan Vectored Thrust Engine and ACME) and prior to founding Reaction Engines. was responsible for engine design work on the RB545 air-breathing rocket engines and winged launcher studies for the European Space Agency.

 

Dr Robert Bond

Corporate Programmes Director
Dr Robert Bond

Robert was appointed to the Board of Reaction Engines Ltd. in 2008 as Corporate Programmes Director.

Robert has an extensive background with the UK Atomic Energy Authority where he worked on the development of nuclear fusion and advanced spacecraft power and propulsion technologies, and with AEA Technology as a Project Manager responsible for the development of leading-edge space optical instruments and lithium-ion battery systems for European and US spacecraft.

 

Gordon Harrison

Production Director
Gordon Harrison

Gordon was appointed to the Board of Reaction Engines Ltd. in 2010 as Production Director.

Gordon has a wide experience in production, manufacturing techniques and project management. Gordon began his career at Leyland as a tool room apprentice and served with them for 24 years in their radiators branch before moving to the UK Atomic Energy Authority where he managed the Special Purposes workshop. Gordon joined Reaction Engines Ltd. in 2005 where he has grown the production section of the company.

 

Mark Hempsell

Future Programmes Director
Mark Hempsell

Mark was appointed to the Board of Reaction Engines Ltd. in 2008 as Future Programmes Director.

Mark formerly worked as a Spacecraft Systems Engineer for British Aerospace Space Division and as Senior Lecturer in Astronautics at the University of Bristol, with significant expertise in satellite programmes and space infrastructure. Mark is a past President of the British Interplanetary Society and a former Editor of the Society‘s Journal.

Dr John Garrod

Non-Executive Director
Dr John Garrod

John was appointed to the Board of Reaction Engines Ltd. in 1996 as Non-Executive Director.

With a PhD in Thermodynamics, John is ex-AEA Technology and has extensive background in nuclear research and fusion technology. John was responsible for 300 staff as General Manager at AEA and grew sales in US and Europe as Head of the Physics Technology Department.
