Reaction Engines Ltd. is pleased to announce that analysis undertaken by the United States’ Air Force Research Laboratory (‘AFRL’) has confirmed the feasibility of the Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine (‘SABRE’) engine cycle concept.
Developed by Reaction Engines over the last 20 years, SABRE is a new engine class that can operate in both air-breathing and rocket modes. The SABRE rocket engine enables aircraft to cruise at speeds of up to five times the speed of sound in the atmosphere or fly directly into Earth orbit.
To demonstrate the application of SABRE engines to space access, REL has designed SKYLON, the first vehicle designed to be powered by SABRE engines.
