At the Manufacturing Facility, 6500 tubes have been inspected and almost 2500 tubes have been electrochemically machined so far. The tubes are in storage awaiting the tube bending process which is due to begin next month.

Mark Hempsell gave a short talk on the “Future of High Speed Flight” at the 20th Anniversary Party of the “ATC Global 2010” Exhibition & Conference in Amsterdam on 10th March.

This introduced air traffic controllers to some of the aircraft they will be controlling in the next 20 years, such as SKYLON and LAPCAT.

Originally postponed due to the snow in January, REL’s Shareholders meeting took place on 19th March at the Head Office in Culham. The shareholders were very pleased with our progress so far and are excited about the future of the company, just like us!

From 24th-28th March, the UK Space Conference was held at Charterhouse. REL was the lead sponsor of the event and also of the Arthurs. The Arthurs are named after Arthur C Clarke and are a British award for outstanding achievement in Space. Alan Bond presented the Arthur for Space Entrepreneur to David Williams of Avanti.

Both Alan and Simon Feast gave a presentation on the recent work at REL, including a preview of early versions of two new movies which will soon be available on our website.

General News

On 23rd March REL attended the UK Space Agency Launch at the QEII Conference Centre in London. The agency will be officially launched on 1st April and will be based in Swindon. The new International Space Innovation Centre (ISIC) will be located at Harwell in Oxfordshire. REL is very excited at this prospect and look forward to working closely with the agency in the future.
