Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, recently visited Reaction Engines’ Culham headquarters where he was briefed on recent milestones in its SABRE development programme and saw how the company’s proprietary technology has the potential to revolutionise thermal management across multiple applications.

Mark Thomas, CEO said:

“It was a pleasure to show the Chancellor around our unique facilities and explain how SABRE will be a leading contender for the future of hypersonic flight and space access vehicles. He also met some of our smart graduates and apprentices and spent time with the team who are developing and commercialising applications derived from our ultra-light weight heat exchangers”.

The Chancellor also visited the UK Atomic Energy Authority, our neighbours on the Culham site, and used his visit to announce the latest UK GDP figures and also conducted several media interviews.

Reaction Engines has raised over £100m in the last three years from public and private sources, which has supported its transition from a successful research phase into development and testing of the engine. In 2013, the UK Government announced a £60m commitment to aid preparations for the design, manufacture and testing of SABRE demonstrator engines.
